about
This song is based on the prayer of St. Francis. A prayer of love and humility that I learned growing up in a Catholic household. I think it reflects the best of what faith (with or without religion) can bring to a person's life, a deep calling to serve others. I was going to post another song today but forgot to take the lyrics with me into the studio so that will have to come to you next month. This song was fresh in my mind because I got to share it on Texas Public Radio this week. The recorded performance and interview will be on
TPR.org soon. I've never had a studio recording of it and Mack liked it so much he insisted we do another cut with cello for a bonus track on the record so, SURPRISE! The CD just got a little bigger.
On the first pass of this track I had to stop because tears were flowing. I think I just have so much to say about what is happening in my mind and in the world and haven't been able to write songs...it just got to me. "Be Love" is a reminder of what I need to be and what we need in this world right now. I'm out of balance and focusing on my health, both physical and mental right now and working on getting this project that I'm so very proud of finished and into the world. It's nice to know this song will be on it now.
FYI the Prayer of St. Francis:
"Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life."
lyrics
Be Love
Oh, I see you everyday
In person or in pictures
Your eyes always the same
Asking me to lend a hand
While you fall deeper and deeper
And I'm frozen where I stand
And I don't want to be
When I see you cry I cry
Aren't your tears the same as mine
Can you hear me sing
I want the words to reach your ears
and may they bring you back to life
Where there is injury, poverty
dying and despair, let me be love
Where there is darkness, sadness
hopelessness, wickedness and hatred,
let me be love
let me be love
Sometimes we feel beaten by the world
It gets colder than we think it should
We push further and further away
But a million star that shine by day
shine brighter the darker the night
I want to be that light
Where there is injury, poverty
dying and despair, let me be love
Where there is darkness, sadness
hopelessness, wickedness and hatred,
let me be love
Where there is injury, poverty
dying and despair, let me be love
Where there is darkness, sadness
hopelessness, wickedness and hatred,
let me be love
let me be love
