about

One of my favorites from the SoulWriters University songwriting group. This was from week 9 and the prompt was "Demons" with extra credit given if you wrote about someone who died. I chose someone I dearly loved, my cousin Joey who passed when he was a teenager. I also drew from my own experience with anxiety and depression.

lyrics

Light a candle, say a prayer
remind yourself that someone cares
let your hope be greater than your fear

Just pick up the phone and dial
Talk to someone for a while
cancel out the voices that you hear, you hear

Your demons Your demons
These thoughts you entertain
Your demons Your demons
Don’t let them have their say

Remember when Joey died
How you’ve often wondered why
And if he found his peace somewhere beyond

But even if you feel the same
I know your heart, you know the pain
of questions left unanswered when you’re gone, you’re gone

Your demons Your demons
These thoughts you entertain
Your demons Your demons
Don’t let them have their say

Just stay awake Breaking the spell
Tell them all to go back to hell

Your demons
Your demons
These thoughts you entertain
Your demons
Your demons
Don’t let them, don’t let them

At some point in my life, I heard this song and decided (before I knew I decided) that my life purpose was to send a "message of love". Be <3
