Question everything. Once upon a time, a man told me I should not question what I was taught to believe and, also, the things he wanted to teach me to believe. That was the moment I knew I would never believe that man. And, yes, he was a pastor. Or, called himself one anyway. I think it's just that I'm more comfortable with people who are searching for answers than those who think they have them all. There were times in my life when I felt absolutely helpless and relied on other people to tell me exactly which way was up and which down. I'm forever grateful for the people who helped me find my way and for those who shared and share their questioning and their conclusions without needing me to come to the same ones. Ultimately, we have to find our own inner sense of direction and I do that by testing it repeatedly to find where it's solid and where the weak spots exist. I do that quite a bit. Why do I believe what I believe? I know this: I don't need you to believe what I believe. But I do need us to respect each other as our beliefs may vary. And I do need to know we can agree not to destroy each other over our beliefs. And I do hope we can support each other and sometimes even guide each other lovingly away from acts of hate and toward acts of love. <3
